My S.O.S Coaching Model

A Simple, Powerful Tool for Conscious Leadership

In today’s fast-paced, high-pressure environments, leaders often find themselves reacting, rather than responding to the challenges around them. Whether it’s navigating complex team dynamics, shifting business priorities, or just trying to stay grounded in the face of uncertainty, it’s easy to lose clarity.

That’s why I have developed S.O.S CoachingTM, a simple yet powerful method in my practice to help leaders pause, reflect, and gain insight from three critical dimensions of any experience. Situation, Others, and Self.

What does S.O.S stand for?

S.O.S equates to:

Situation – What’s happening beyond you
Others – What’s happening around you
Self – What’s happening within you

This model helps you decode the invisible forces at play in any leadership moment, internal narratives, interpersonal dynamics, and broader environmental influences.

SelfInner experience, mindset, emotions, identityIntrapersonal

Table 1: SOS (Situation–Others–Self) offers a practical and intuitive lens for leaders to reflect on challenges across three core dimensions: Organizational Systems, Teams and Leadership.

1. Situation: The Larger Context

Beyond you and your immediate team lies the environment, market trends, economic factors, organizational shifts, even global events. These forces may be invisible, but they shape what’s possible in any moment.

Ask yourself:
• What systemic pressures are in play?
• How might this environment be affecting motivation, trust, or performance?
• What’s shifting in the background that I need to acknowledge?

2. Others: The People Around You

Leadership doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Every conversation, meeting, or decision is shaped by others, including their goals, fears, behaviours, and pressures.

Ask yourself:
• What’s influencing the people around me?
• What might be unsaid but still affecting the dynamic?
• How are my actions landing with others?

3. Self: Your Inner Experience

This is where it begins to translate within you. What are you feeling right now? What beliefs, assumptions, or memories might be influencing your reaction? Often, our internal landscape can shape our entire interpretation of a situation.

Ask yourself:
• What emotion is surfacing?
• What might be triggering that emotion?
• How is my past influencing this moment?

You can even draw three concentric circles -> Self at the center, Others in the middle, Situation on the outside, and map what was occurring in each.

Why It Matters

S.O.S CoachingTM doesn’t promise instant answers. Instead, it offers clarity. It slows you down just enough to consider what’s really going on, internally, relationally, and systemically. And from that place of insight, more intentional and effective leadership becomes possible.

Because when you understand the full context, you stop reacting and start responding with wisdom.

Try It Today

The next time you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or uncertain, pause. Ask yourself:

“What’s shifting in the broader Situation? What’s going on with Others? And, What’s happening with my Self? ”

That’s your S.O.S moment.
